Through July 18
Pentacle Theatre presents Rumors by Neil Simon, directed by Robert Barnett. At a large, tastefully-appointed Sneden’s Landing townhouse, the Deputy Mayor of New York has just shot himself. Though it’s only a flesh wound, Charlie Brock’s self-inflicted injury sets off a series of events causing four couples to experience a severe attack of farce. As their tenth wedding anniversary party commences, Charlie lies bleeding in another room, and his wife Myra is nowhere in sight. The first guests, lawyer Ken Gorman and his wife Chris, scramble to get “the story” straight before the other guests arrive. Fireworks may be the grand finale, but there’s plenty happening before the first spark reaches the sky. The 4th of July Spectacular combines carnival rides, live music, fair food, family activities, and patriotic celebration into one of Salem’s largest Independence Day gatherings. This year’s entertainment includes Escape, a tribute to rock legends Journey, and Take A Little Ride, a high-energy salute to country star Jason Aldean. Tour the Supreme Court Building — In honor of the America 250 celebration, the Oregon Judicial Department (OJD) will be offering free tours of the historic Supreme Court building in downtown Salem throughout July. Tours will be held every Tuesday starting July 7 until July 28 from noon to 1 p.m. and are free to join. No need to register in advance — just drop by the Oregon Supreme Court building at 1163 State Street. (Note: Anyone entering the building will need to go through a security screening, which includes walking through a metal detector.)

Mean Girls the Musical — The Plastics are headed outdoors. Chemeketa Community College teams up with local theater professionals for this open-air production of the Broadway hit based on Tina Fey’s beloved film. The Imperfect Murder Society: An Improvised Murder Mystery — Murder is on the agenda, but the details are entirely up to you. Ceili of the Valley hosts weekly classes that invite dancers of all experience levels to join, learn, and have fun. Each dance is walked through and called, making the class approachable for beginners, families, and anyone curious about Celtic dance traditions. Gaiety Hollow hosts Open Gardens, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every Wednesday through September at 545 Mission St SE. Gaiety Hollow is the home, garden and studio of Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver. The Lord and Schryver Conservancy purchased Gaiety Hollow in 2015 and has since restored the garden to its period of significance. The property is listed on the National Historic Register. Salem Poetry Project continues on a weekly basis. Each week will present a featured reader followed by the Infamous Open Mic: 3 poems or five minutes whichever is first. Featured reader begins at 7:00 and the open mic will directly follow. The Salem Poetry Project is temporarily housed at the First Presbyterian Church Chapel near the Oregon State Capitol, 770 Chemeketa St NE through June 11, then will return to the Bush Barn Annex, 600 Mission St SE. Parking for the Bush Barn and Bush House is located off of High Street and the Annex entrance is just to the left of the main entrance.
