The InstigatorWandering Players Theatrics is casting its upcoming production of Evil Dead The Musical, opening October 23 in the former Cinebarre space at Salem Center. The show will be the first production staged in Wandering Players’ new permanent downtown Salem home.
Based on Sam Raimi’s cult-classic Evil Dead films, the musical follows five college students who head to an abandoned cabin in the woods and accidentally unleash an evil force. There are demons, dismemberment, bad jokes, a chainsaw-wielding hero, and a whole lot of fake blood. Naturally, they sing about it.
Now Wandering Players is looking for the people who will bring it back to life.
Casting Call
Auditions will be held on August 29 in two groups: 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 2 to 5 p.m. Sign up here.
All roles are open. And this is a paid gig. Actors cast in the production will receive a $500 stipend.

- Ash: A housewares employee who turns into a chainsaw-wielding hero.
College student, male-presenting, baritone - Cheryl: Ash’s dorky sister who turns into a foul-mouthed demon
College student, female-presenting, alto - Annie: A brilliant archaeologist
Mid-twenties, female-presenting, alto - Shelly: A ditzy airhead
Mid-twenties, female-presenting, alto - Linda: Ash’s perfect girlfriend who loses her head
College student, female-presenting, soprano - Scott: Ash’s crude best friend
College student, male-presenting, tenor - Ed: Annie’s boyfriend who can’t get a word in
Mid-twenties, male-presenting, bass - Jake: A guy who they meet in the woods
Mid-thirties/ forties, male-presenting, baritone - Shemp #1: General chorus and other various roles

Performers should prepare:
- A resume and headshot
- A 1- to 2-minute monologue
- 32 bars of music
- Clothing suitable for the movement portion of the audition
A pianist and sound system will be available, and singers must provide either accompaniment or a track.
