From Broadway favorites and new works to comedies and musicals, Salem’s stages offer plenty of reasons to take a seat.
Pentacle Theatre presents Rumors
A gunshot, a missing host, and a dinner party off the rails. Pentacle Theatre presents Neil Simon’s Rumors, which turns a simple anniversary celebration into a whirlwind of misunderstandings, cover-ups, and increasingly absurd attempts to keep the truth hidden. Packed with quick wit, mistaken assumptions, and classic farce, this comedy proves that sometimes the rumors are more entertaining than the facts. On stage Jun 26 to Jul 18 at Pentacle Theatre, 324 52nd Ave NW. Click here for tickets.
Chemeketa’s Theatre Under the Stars: Mean Girls
The Plastics are headed outdoors. Chemeketa Community College presents Theatre Under the Stars: Mean Girls the Musical, bringing Tina Fey’s hit story to life with memorable songs, sharp humor, and plenty of high school drama. Directed by Stephen Munshaw and choreographed by Christopher Dean, the same creative team behind last summer’s production of Oliver!, the production features a cast of local performers and a live orchestra of professional musicians from around the Willamette Valley. Low-profile lawn chairs, blankets, and picnics are welcome. 7:30 p.m. Jul 7-9, 11 a.m. Jul 11 and 6 p.m. Jul 12 at the Gerry Frank | Salem Rotary Amphitheater in Riverfront Park. Click here for tickets.
Pentacle Theatre presents Catch Me If You Can
Pilot. Doctor. Lawyer. Frank Abagnale Jr. manages to become all three without actually being any of them in Pentacle Theatre’s production of Catch Me If You Can. Based on the remarkable true story that inspired the hit film, this high-energy musical follows a charismatic young con artist as he stays one step ahead of the FBI while chasing adventure, success, and the life he’s always imagined. On stage Aug 14 to Sep 5 at Pentacle Theatre, 324 52nd Ave NW. Click here for tickets.
Theatre 33 Summer Festival
For two weeks each August, Salem becomes a destination for new theater. The festival features six original plays performed in repertory, giving audiences the chance to see fresh stories, emerging voices, and work that may one day appear on stages across the country. No two plays are alike, making it easy to build a festival experience around your interests. Additionally, audience feedback helps playwrights refine their work, making every performance part of the creative process. On stage Aug 4 to 16 at various locations. Click here for tickets.
