Sounds of Summer 2022: Where to find live music outside in Salem

Live music while basking in the glory of Oregon’s outdoors? Yes, please. Here’s a look at some of the places you can catch a concert under the stars this summer —

Ankeny Vineyard, 2565 Riverside Dr. S, hosts live music most weekends during the summer. And if you don’t go for the music, go for a taste of estate-grown wines and wood-fired pizzas, plus a glorious sunset. The cost is $5 per person. Reservations are recommended and can be made by calling 503-378-1498 or going to ankenyvineyard.com

  • July 9: The FlexTones — favorites, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m.
  • July 10: Nathan Olsen, Wes Tjernlund & John Pounds — 2 to 4 p.m. (no cover charge)

Basil & Board, 500 Liberty St SE #150, is hosting Live from the Rooftop a summer concert series featuring local artists every Thursday evening in June, July and August. As Salem’s only rooftop dining, you can be sure this will be a hot spot so reservations are recommended. Make yours here.

  • July 7: Dub Orchestra Duvall, improvisation that focuses on dub grooves and Caribbean jazz
  • July 14: Andrew Hussey with Nathan Olsen, jazz
  • July 21: Manny Martinez Jazz Quartet, jazz
  • July 28: Bex Beloved, multi-genre violin and ambient folk
  • August 4: Moon Music, acid folk duo
  • August 11: Andrew Hussey with Nathan Olsen, jazz

Bryn Mawr Vineyards, 5935 Bethel Heights Road NW, hosts Taco Tuesday which includes live music, 5 to 8 p.m. Tacos are from Newberg food truck, Ricky’s Tacos, plus the vineyard offers a “Featured Wine” at a deep discount. Make your reservations at brynmawrvineyards.com.

The Summer Uncorked Concert Series returns to Eola Hills Legacy Estate Vineyard, 1600 Oak Grove Road. The shows take place 6 to 8 p.m. Bring your own chair or blanket and grab a spot on the lawn. Tickets are $10 online or $15 at the door per person for general admission. Children 12 and under are free. Reserve a limited table on the VIP terrace for an additional cost. Doors open at 5:30 p.m. There will be rotating food trucks and a wine bar. No outside food or drinks are permitted. The shows are outdoor and happen rain or shine, so go prepared. From May through September, the City of Salem is hosting free, all-ages concerts at 8 p.m. on the first Friday of every month at the Gerry Frank | Salem Rotary Amphitheater in downtown Salem’s Riverfront Park. The concerts are a part of Salem’s First Friday Art Walk that takes place in downtown Salem.

Here’s the line-up —

  • July 1: Wild Ire — alt-rock
  • August 5: The Ferenjis — neo-soul
  • September 2: Showtigers — fuzzy, energetic, dynamic rock and roll
  • October 7: Pachanga — Afro-Latin rhythms, Latin rock

Hudak House (formerly Kathken Vineyard), 5737 Orchard Heights Road NW, hosts Summervine concert series. Shows take place 7 to 10 p.m. Tickets are $15 online; $20 at the door per person for this 21 and older show.

Marion County Fair at the Oregon State Fairgrounds offers live music as a small part of its entertainment. The fair takes place July 8 through 10. Buy tickets in advance for a discount. Learn more at https://marioncountyfair.net/

MIG Fest, the punk and ska music fest at Minto Island Farm that will take place July 16, is sold out. If you missed your chance for tickets. Sorry! We’ll letcha know how awesome it is.


Minto Island Growers hosts Summer Concerts at its Farm Stand and Food Cart at 3394 Brown Island Rd S. The Food Cart is serving lunch 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday through Sunday and dinner 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Friday. For tickets, call the Farm Stand at 503-931-6840 or pop by during open hours.

  • August 6: Salem String Quartet, classical music, 6 to 7:30 p.m. $10

The Oregon State Fair is happening from August 26 through September 5. Reserved concert tickets start at $40 and include fair admission. Tickets for VIPPlus Suite Seats (includes free parking, souvenir lanyard, priority entrance, special food service, access to a VIP beverage bar and a reserved seat in the premium center section) are $100 each. Pudding River Wine Cellars, 9374 Sunnyview Road NE, features a free Summer Concert Series with live music 2 to 5 p.m. Sundays. Patio takes can fill up fast so bring your camp chair to sit on the lawn. Info: 503-365-039, https://puddingriver.com/

The West Salem Lions Club hosts the Salem Electric Summer Concert Series at West Salem Park on Rosemont Avenue NW, behind the West Salem Safeway. The concerts are from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each Thursday in July.

  • July 14: Billy & the Rockets, Country 50’s 60’s Rock
