Tips for making the most of the Salem Art Fair & Festival

The 74th annual Salem Art Fair & Festival brings a weekend of art, music and community to Bush’s Pasture Park July 21-23. Here are a few tips for making the most of the weekend affair —

Do Your Homework —

Are you on the lookout for a certain something? Check the Art Fair database in advance to plot out which vendors are top on your list. Also, as the event has a new layout this year, you may want to review the Festival Map prior to your adventuring.

Make Note —

The Art Fair is so much more than art. There is non-stop entertainment, too. This year’s headline entertainers are FABBA, a sensational tribute to ABBA at 8:30 p.m. Friday; roots musician Lloyd Jones at 8:30 p.m. Saturday; and blues rock trio Inner Limits at 3 p.m. Sunday.

When? The Kids’ Court (with free children’s activities) is open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Artists Booths are open 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday and Saturday and entertainment goes from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday. On Sunday, all activities are happening 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Where? Bush’s Pasture Park, 600 Mission St SE. Need more info? Visit salemartfair.org

Buy Your Ticket Online

Save a wait at the gate by buying your ticket online in advance. Click here to purchase. Bonus: Salem Art Association members receive free admission to the Salem Art Fair & Festival, so now is a good time to join or renew your membership here.

Dress for It

Protect yourself from the elements — wear sunscreen, a hat, long sleeves (I know, what?) You get what I am saying though, right? There are shaded areas, but the majority of the vendors are in the open meadow area and it looks like we have a sunny weekend ahead (although I hear the temp is only mid-80s on Sunday, yay?!) Also, footwear — wear comfy walking shoes.

BYO

Bring your own bag, blanket and chair. Think you might make a purchase? Bring your own bag for ease of carrying your new treasures. Blankets and chairs are also welcome and a good idea for making you most comfortable when taking in the entertainment

Carry Cash

Sure, most vendors will accept debit and credit cards, but it can be quicker and easier for purchases at lower prices to pay with cash. Plus, cash keeps more money in the pocket of the artist since most card companies charge fees. There are also ATMs on site if needed.

Also…leave the dog at home. And please note that no outside food or drinks are permitted, but there are plenty of vendors who can satisfy your cravings and quench your thirst.

Supporting Art in Salem —

Feel good knowing that funds raised from the art fair help Salem Art Association to support artists, exhibitions, educational activities and other community programs.
