Lace-up your sneakers, and let the training begin — The third annual TR Melton Memorial Race For The Rest Of Us is going virtual this year.
Mark your calendar for December 13 and get ready for the most grueling 0.05 mile run you have ever experienced. Ok, ok, it may not be the most grueling, but it is 2020 after all.
Traditionally the race is a kick-off for Rob Melton’s Tips for Tots annual fundraiser, which helps to buy holiday gifts for children and families in need, but like many annual events, the pandemic has changed things.
Yet, the race must go on, said Rob.
“There are still families in need and we will not give up on them,” said Rob. “Hopefully, the support we can give will make a tough situation better and perhaps be the turning point for someone in our community.”
In an effort to maximize every dollar for the families in need, Rob is asking participants to donate directly to one of the three charities: Family Building Blocks, Saint Francis Shelter, or The Center for Hope and Safety. Be sure to make note that your donation is in support of Tips for Tots.
Rob is asking for a $40 donation per runner; aiming to raise $4,000.
So what’s all involved in a virtual race? The plan includes all the fun of the first two years, with the ability to stay safe, so participants can expect donuts, beer, stickers and Rob in spandex pants — Well, maybe not that much fun, Rob said. But each participant will get a goodie bag filled with surprises for race day and there is limited space, so don’t delay to sign up!

Fast Fact: Since its inception 23 years ago, Tips for Tots has raised more than $135,000 to help local families and children in need.
