Portland-based artist Karen White sees herself as a storyteller who is harvesting and manipulating segmented details of her past by working with discarded materials. She says that, “by handling and manipulating individual elements over and over, I reinforce cognitive processing styles to better understand the memories that make up my identity.” Karen’s installation/exhibition will evolve over time as she develops and creates during her time in the Annex at the Bush Barn Art Center.

This community series, brought to you by Gallagher Fitness Resources, encourages people to get active and have fun while exploring downtown Salem in a scavenger hunt-like walk/run. Each month features different checkpoints. There are also shoe testing opportunities and following the exploration, Santiam Brewing Co. micro beer and Venti’s Cafe + Basement Bar food available for purchase. Proceeds go to the Willamette Valley Road Runners Club (WVRR) non-profit that promotes and participates in running events throughout the Willamette Valley.

McMenamins annual Barley Cup Brewfest is a community affair where you get to be the judge. CHOICES, an intimate, transformative, and provocative portrayal of a woman who discovers forgiveness is an inside job, will experience its world premiere reading on June 19. Written, directed and produced by Rachel Wolf, the show unfolds in what appears to be a support group for women coming to terms with their abortions, but as the women share their intimate stories with each other, it is discovered that their connections run much deeper. Recommended age is 16 and older as there is graphic language and mature content. After the show, there will be a talk back with the playwright and actors.

Francisco Hernandez is showcasing art created while he was incarcerated at the Oregon State Penitentiary. His artwork, which shares and proves his humanity, “provided a small sense of freedom from my life that was otherwise bounded by 30-foot-high walls and gun towers and bars.”
