Seussical takes to the stage Dec 9-18 in downtown Salem
From book to stage, Enlightened Theatrics aims to delight all this winter with Seussical, written by Lynn Ahrens and Stephen Flaherty. From The Cat in the Hat to Horton the Elephant, this musical comedy brings your favorite Dr. Seuss characters to life—real life.
“People will be shocked,” said Executive Director Jessica Peterson. “It’s not the kids’ books.”
The Enlightened Theatrics creative team is taking the play to a different level, bringing the story to a place that will resonate with all ages.
“Our concept is making it more realistic than comic,” Jessica said, adding that she feels people will be able to relate with and connect to the colorful characters as they work through this tale of friendship, loyalty, family and community.

As one of the theater’s ‘mixed’ productions, the show includes both professional and community roles. It brings together two dozen actors and provides a space for youth (which is more than half the cast) to learn alongside professional performers, giving them real-world experience in a creatively nurturing environment.
The performance on Friday, Dec 16 will include ASL interpretation thanks to a partnership with the Western Oregon University Interpreting Studies program. Get access to a special order code for seats closest to the interpreters by emailing jessica@enlightenedtheatrics.org.
