First Thursday Contra Dance returns with nationally known caller Gaye Fifer from Pittsburgh and Pringle Creek band playing tunes. Oregon Symphony presents Tchaikovsky’s Symphony No. 5 — One-of-a-kind cellist, singer, and improviser Abel Selaocoe plays a new cello concerto written just for him by Jessie Montgomery, whose irrepressible vitality and imagination make her a star amongst today’s composers. Pentacle Theatre presents Angel Street (Gaslight) — Set in 19th-century London, this suspenseful thriller follows Bella Manningham as her husband slowly manipulates her into doubting her own sanity. When Inspector Rough of Scotland Yard arrives with suspicions that Mr. Manningham may be connected to a murder committed in the house 15 years earlier, Bella begins to question everything she has been told. Originally produced on the West End as Gaslight, the play inspired the term “gaslighting.” Written by Patrick Hamilton and directed by Gregory Jolivette, the local production runs October 2 through 24 at Pentacle Theatre. Find exhibitions, demonstrations and activities that highlight the rich artistic talent of the region at the Westminster Festival of Fine Art. This year’s featured artist is Christina Stefani. Christina’s abstract paintings explore the emotional landscapes that define the human experience. Working primarily in oil and mixed media, she builds each composition through layered glazing techniques that create luminous depth and atmosphere. Her work reflects a fascination with the unseen forces that shape our lives: love, memory, connection, and transformation. 

The festival kicks off 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, October 16, with a wine reception featuring music by Gail Gage Jazz.
