Zooming Back to History: The Law and the LGBTQ+ Community in Oregon — Indigenous populations tended to respect – and sometimes revere –their Two Spirit people. White settlers brought repressive laws and made homophobia the law of the land. In the late 20th century, Gay Liberation and a series of anti-LGBTQ ballot measures struggled in the arena of public opinion. In the early 2000s, the Oregon Equality Act and the Oregon Safe Schools and Communities Act codified important rights for LGBTQ+ folk. Is the pendulum swinging again? Speaker Robin Will (he/him/his) is president of Gay & Lesbian Archives of the Pacific Northwest (GLAPN). His education is mostly in journalism and the social sciences, and his work experience involves both the editorial and production side of publishing, although he also spent time in social work as a paraprofessional, drove a school bus, played old-time music in a tavern band, and spent four years as a farm caretaker.
