Art Department presents a daily challenge on Instagram with the simple goal — Make More Art! So get your creative juice flowing and create. One day, 31 days. Draw, paint, photograph, print, doodle, sculpt, sew, mix media — it does not matter your medium or how much time you spend, the encouragement is to do something every day, then use and follow the hashtag #artdeptdailychallenge (and be sure to follow www.instagram.com/artdepartmentsupply/)

August 1

Fleetwood Mac tribute band GOLD DUST will perform 7 p.m. Saturday, August 1, at Kathken Vineyards, 5739 Orchard Heights Road NW. Doors open at 5:45 p.m. Masks required. Bring a camp chair and jacket/blanket for your comfort. Cost: $10 per person; by in advance at www.eventbrite.com

The Willamette Art Center Pottery Sale takes place 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. August 1, across from the Saturday Market, at 555 Winter Street NE. All pottery items have been created and donated by WAC patrons of all skill levels. Funds raised will help sustain the local art nonprofit during the pandemic.

August 1 through 8

Comic Book Covers 4 Cancer hosts its Summer Series of Auctions August 1 through 8 on eBay. Funds raised support the American Cancer Society. To date, the local art for a cause group has raised more than $11,000 for charity. Learn more here.

August 2

Yoga + Beer returns to the streets of downtown Salem for a special Sunday morning yoga party in collaboration with Taproot Lounge & Cafe. Join Mikki Trowbridge Yoga 10 a.m. Sunday, August 2, for an all-levels flow yoga class, accompanied by DJ Residual Sugar. Gathering for class on the block of State St. between Liberty & Commercial. Theatre 33 hosts a Zoom reading performance of Tips on Raising my Daughter by Laura Wheatman Hill, a new play about birth, death, and the important things in between, 2 p.m. Wednesday, August 5. It’s First Wednesday in downtown Salem…so mask up and head out, but keep your distance. We recommend checking out Salem’s newest gallery, Salem on the Edge, (story coming soon!) then stopping by Ernie & Gray for the opening reception of work by Salem-based painter and designer, Jude Morales, 6 to 8 p.m.

Help keep an annual tradition alive. Watch the Night of 1,000 Stars Virtual Teen Talent Showcase 6 p.m. Thursday, August 6. Hosted by the Salem Public Library’s Teen Scene will host a livestream premiere of videos submitted by local teens sharing their best talent. Learn more here.

Multicultural Day Reimagined is a virtual celebration hosted by the Oregon State Capitol 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, August 15. There will be video activities, music, stories, dancing performances and more. Keep an eye on this page for more info.

POSTPONED Wild Pear is celebrating 20 years in business with a Tiki Party 1 to 7 p.m. Saturday, August 15, with live outdoor music by Koral Jam plus tiki cocktails and Hawaiian grindz.

Divine Distillers celebrates its Grand Opening and 2 Year Anniversary, 2 to 10 p.m. Saturday, August 15 at 2475 25th St SE. The event will be held in the distillery’s large outdoor area and parking lot around the building and feature live music by Erin Westfall and Ty Curtis.

August 18

Youth can take part in the Suffragette Tea Party 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Tuesday, August 18, at Willamette Heritage Center, 1313 Mill St SE. 100 years ago, women across the United States finally won the right to vote thanks to the courage and endurance of women like Oregon’s own Abigail Scott Duniway. August 19

Have a Dancing Date Night on The Rooftop 7 to 9:30 p.m. August 19 at Basil & Board, 500 Liberty Street SE #150. Enjoy a unique date night — learn to dance with your significant other on The Rooftop at Basil & Board. Safe, social distancing measures will be in place and the evening will be led by local professional dancers with more than 25 years of experience … so no experience needed. One ticket includes professional Merengue dance instruction for two, bruschetta & charcuterie board, and four drink tickets that can be used for wine, beer, frozen cocktails or non-alcoholic beverages. August 21

Prince of Peace will hold its Annual Rummage Sale with social distancing in mind. The sale will take place 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, August 21, and 9 to 2 p.m. Saturday, 22, in the front parking lot at Prince of Peace Episcopal Church in West Salem. Wear your mask and gloves.  There will gently used clothing, books, puzzles, dishes, knick-knacks and more. No furniture or mattresses. Click here for info.

CluedUpp Games hosts a live-action adventure with Witchcraft & Wizardry Salem, an outdoor mystery-solving game that aims to transport you into a fantasy world, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, August 22. Learn more and sign up here. Limited tickets available.

August 26

Learn how to recycle right with Marion County Environmental Services during Recycling in 2020 11 a.m. Wednesday, August 26. This “recycling refresher” can help you keep up with the latest rules and understand some of the whys as well. Register for this virtual program here.

August 31

Singer-songwriter Jill Andrews will be stopping in Salem on her Outdoor Spaces and Covered Faces Tour to play an backyard show 7 p.m. Monday, August 31. In addition to songs from her latest album, Thirties, Jill will perform catalog favorites. All attendees will be expected to wear face masks, practice safe physical distancing, and sign a waiver acknowledging the COVID-19 risk at the door. Bring your own drinks and snacks.
