The InstigatorTips for Tots annual fundraiser kicks off with the 0.05-mile “race” on December 5
Donuts. Beer. 0.05 miles.
It’s time for the annual TR Melton Memorial Race for the Rest of Us, a grueling 0.05-mile foot race that initiates the kick-off of the Tips for Tots fundraiser, and takes place at 3 p.m. Sunday, December 5 at f/Stop Fitzgerald’s Public House, 335 Grove St. NE.
A $40 buy-in gets you a marathon bib, a custom-made 0.05 sticker (26.2 who really cares?), donuts and beer midway through the race (gotta carb load) and the overwhelming joy of participating. Purchase two tickets at the same time for $60.
The Governor’s Cup Coffee Roasters will be providing hot cocoa and coffee for the race and our friend Santiam Brewing Co. will provide the beer for the race!
Don’t want to run? Can’t make it on December 5? Donations are accepted. Additionally, there is an option to sponsor a runner who may not be able to afford the ticket price as this event is all about coming together as a community to help provide Christmas for families who are facing hardships during the holiday season. All proceeds go directly to the charities supported by Tips for Tots, which include Saint Francis Shelter, Family Building Blocks and Salem Angels.

Tips For Tots takes place at local businesses throughout the community.
- Lively Station will be hosting Tips For Tots with Rob Drinkenstein as your bartender Dec 6 and 8. Rob will be donating all his tips to the cause. Additionally, Lively Station will host a silent auction of super cool items from 105.5 FM The Moon, Soak Float Center, Guitar Castle, and more.
- All sales from all locations of Straight From New York Pizza between 5 and 8 p.m. on Dec 2 will be donated.
- And adding to that, HomeSmart Realty Group – Oregon will be matching Straight From New York Pizza dollar for dollar, up to $2,500.
- The bartenders at f/Stop Fitzgerald’s Public House will donate tips Wednesday, Dec 8 (Chuck); Thursday, Dec 9 (Darren); and Saturday, Dec 11 (Nikki). The bartender who earns the most tips will get a pie in the face from the other two bartenders. Plus, an anonymous donor will match tips up to $2,000.
- The staff at Salem Cinema will be donating the tips they receive from Dec 1 through 5.
Since Rob started this annual tradition, more than $150,000 has been raised to help bring happy holidays to families in need in the Willamette Valley.
