See Ripcord, a comedy about dueling seniors, on stage through May 11 at Pentacle Theatre

Pentacle Theatre presents Ripcord, a modern comedy about dueling seniors on stage through May 11.

Written by popular playwright David Lindsay-Abaire, the story takes place at the Bristol Place Senior Living Facility where cantankerous Abby resides in sunny room on an upper floor. It’s prime real estate, so when she is forced to share her accommodations with Marilyn, the new arrival who is an infuriatingly chipper roommate, she decides Marilyn must go.

“Abby has lived alone in her room for four years and Marilyn has been her roommate for just a few weeks, and they have to figure out how to deal with their opposing personalities,” said director Karen McCarty in a press release.

The women make a bet with one another — seemingly harmless — until it becomes a dangerous game of one-upmanship revealing both the determination of the women as well as deeper truths each has kept hidden.

The cast includes —

  • Pamela Abernethy plays cantankerous Abby Binder, who has a room to herself at the Briston Place Senior Living Facility and likes it that way.
  • Deborah Goins Johansen plays Marilyn Dunne, Abby’s chipper and cheerful new roommate who isn’t scared away by Abby’s antics.
  • Anthony Barghini plays Scotty, a resident aide at the senior living facility.
  • Charles K. Carter plays Benjamin, Lewis and Clown.
  • Jennifer Killikelly plays Colleen and Woman in White.
  • Alec Zitzelberger plays Derek, Zombie Butler and Masked Man.

“Just watching how these women grow and learn to relate with one other will really resonate with the audience,” said Karen. “This show ultimately is all about family and how family can grow throughout your life to include friends you become close through shared life experiences.”
