Celebrate Independence Day at the ballpark as the Marion Berries face the Portland Pickles in an afternoon packed with patriotic fun. The first 500 fans through the gates receive a free red, white, and blue cap courtesy of Capitol Subaru. Plus: join the excitement with in-game contests, including hot dog (enter here) and pie eating competitions, and classic all-American concessions. 4th of July Spectacular — The Oregon State Fairgrounds transforms into a buzzing celebration of sound, flavor, and fire-lit skies. From the scent of barbecue drifting through the air to the cheers of kids spinning through carnival rides, it’s a full-sensory kickoff to the season.
This year’s celebration also brings hip-hop icons Lil Jon and the Ying Yang Twins to center stage at 8 p.m. And when the music fades, the sky lights up. A 20-minute fireworks display caps off the night with a burst of color and community.

Silent Disco — After Lil Jon and the Ying Yang Twins wrap up, throw on a pair of headphones and jump into a full-on dance party with multiple DJs, custom channels, and nonstop vibes just outside the concert. Salem Cinema presents Picasso: A Rebel In Paris — Fifty years after his passing, we embark on a journey through Pablo Picasso's Paris, amidst sunshine and shadow, convictions and contradictions, from a young, impoverished foreigner to one of the most important icons of the 20th century. The film moves continuously in and out of the Musée Picasso in Paris, that has the largest existing collection dedicated to the painter with 6,000 masterpieces and 200,000 pieces of archive material, and follows Picasso through the Parisian neighborhoods where he lived, from the early days in ateliers with no heating to the large middle-class apartments where his success began: a physical and intellectual journey to gain a deeper understanding of his work and spirit. 6 p.m. Tue, Jul 8, at Salem Cinema. And followed by Ned LeDoux — A country artist whose music captures the spirit of place, memory, and tradition through heartfelt songwriting and a warm, relatable voice. Son of the legendary Chris LeDoux, Ned began performing at a young age, eventually playing drums in his father’s band before launching his solo career.

Get out and dance at the Second Friday Ceili — Ceili of the Valley Society welcomes musicians Bonnie Griffin and Elizabeth Nicholson and caller Geraldine Murray for this no-experience, no partner needed event. Even if you are not a dancer, you can do it. But really, the music alone is worth it! Doors open at 7 p.m. followed by a short dance lesson and live music from 8 to 11. All dances are taught before the live music begins. Theatre 33 invites audiences to take a chance — on new plays, new voices, and a new future for American theater. The Salem nonprofit will debut three fully produced plays and three staged readings, all written by Pacific Northwest playwrights and developed in collaboration with dedicated dramaturgs.
