OREGON GOVERNOR’S OFFICE

Through July 25

Moving On — See Roseburg born, Portland artist G. Lewis Clevenger’s exhibition “Moving On.” Clevenger paints abstract compositions with bold colors and overlapping softly geometric forms. To him, painting each piece is a give-and-take process that takes time: “The paintings develop as I ‘push’ the mark making and the canvas pushes back in response. The colors and composition shift and settle in as the painting progresses. My paintings develop and change daily.” The final works both reveal and hide these storied layers, inviting the viewer’s eye to return to the lines and colors, again and again, searching for a meaning that is just out of reach.
When: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday to Friday, through July 25
Where: Governor’s Office, Oregon State Capitol, 900 Court St. NE, Rm. 250

His subject matter comes from life, love and loss as he paints what he sees and feels. “The pop culture of the ’60s was my favorite time as a teenager. I liked seeing the work of Peter Max and Andy Warhol everywhere.” Check out Press Play Salem issue 7 for our RECORD profile on Tim.

Nancy Eng “Just Nature”Nancy Eng is an award-winning artist and business owner living in Oregon. She earned her Bachelor of Science in Art from Oregon State University. Her work has been included in private and corporate collections, and publications. “My paintings start from photos, sketches and memories. Change is an influential aspect of my painting. Each piece alters from its original colors, composition and emotions, flowing through change and resulting in multiple layers to its final creation. Bit by bit, layer by layer, my paintings take on their own personal expressions.”
