The Elsinore Theatre is celebrating its 98th anniversary on Sunday, May 26 with a double feature screening of two silent film classics starring Buster Keaton.
But don’t worry, you won’t be sitting in silence. The films will be accompanied by Rick Parks on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ.Â
Said to be the largest Wurlitzer in the Pacific Northwest, the historic instrument features more than 1,800 pipes tucked away behind the theater’s walls. With 183 keys over three keyboards, it’s no wonder it can create the sounds of an entire orchestra.Â
The movies Rick will provide the musical score for are Sherlock Jr, a 1924 film about a film projectionist who longs to be a detective and puts his meager skills to work when he is framed by a rival for theft, and One Week, from 1920, about a newly wedded couple who attempt to build a house from a prefabricated kit, unaware that the kit has been sabotaged.
Rumor has it, there will also be cupcakes to celebrate the theater’s momentous occasion.
The show takes place 2 p.m. Sunday, May 26 at 170 High St. SE. Seating is general admission. Tickets are $15 in advance; $20 day of show. Get your tickets here.Â
