Taking a page from its history, the Elsinore Theatre is bringing the 1927 silent film College, starring Buster Keaton, back to the big screen.
But don’t worry, you won’t be sitting in silence. The film will be accompanied by Rick Parks on the Mighty Wurlitzer Organ.
Said to be the largest Wurlitzer in the Pacific Northwest, the historic instrument features more than 1,800 pipes tucked away – hidden – behind the theater’s walls. With its 183 keys over three keyboards, it’s no wonder it can create the sounds of an entire orchestra.
So even if you aren’t interested in the movie, which is about a bookish college student who tries to become an athlete in order to reconcile with his girlfriend (in case you were wondering), it’s like an hour-long organ concert. That alone is a pretty monumental experience.
The show takes place Wednesday, April 6. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the film begins at 7 p.m. Seating is general admission. Tickets are $10 each. Kids age 12 and younger are free with each paid ticket (limit 2 children per paid ticket).
The Elsinore Theatre is located at 170 High St. SE. For information, call 503-375-3574 or go to www.elsinoretheatre.com.
