Salem Art Walk

The First Friday Art Walk event, presented by the Salem Art Walk, continues this May by bringing back the focus on artists and artisans. The Salem community is invited to enjoy local art, pop-up events, live music, and more as you stroll through downtown Salem from 5-8pm on the First Friday of each month during the year.  

One of the goals of the Art Walk is to bring people into our historic downtown to experience its vibrancy, shopping, and dining, and to meet and talk with the artists/artisans. Since the focus is on art and not ‘winning a prize’, we have discontinued the passport and gift basket drawing.  Instead, we’d like visitors to experience the expertise and creativity of the artists and artisans, and to show how art can create connections by bringing people together physically and culturally. Additionally, art can spark a dialogue between the artist and the audience, enhancing the appreciation and interpretation of the art. Art can also be used to create community-based art programs that engage people in a shared creative experience.

A map of participating businesses in the downtown Salem core will be printed and available to pick up at each location. Each location on the map will show the name of the artist that the business is hosting. If you are looking for a specific artist, you’ll know where to find them.

Additionally, this is one night of the month when businesses stay open late to accommodate more people that may work during the day, as well as to offer a community night out with family and friends.

Maps can be picked up at the Elsinore Framing & Fine Art Gallery/AiA Gallery, Art Department, Holman Hotel, CreativiTEE, Salem on the Edge Gallery and Munchies Market/Reed Opera House Mall.
