Caboose at Willamette Heritage Center
The Willamette Heritage Center is rolling out its first permanent exhibit since 2007, and it’s one you can climb aboard.
Caboose 507 is a fully restored wooden railcar built in 1909 for the Oregon & California Railroad. Volunteers and staff have spent years preparing the caboose for public display, which includes adding a new ramp to ensure accessibility for all.
The celebration begins with a 10 a.m. ribbon-cutting, followed by a day of free museum admission, family-friendly activities, and more. Inside the caboose, visitors will find interactive, hands-on learning that connects Salem’s story to the railroad industry that once operated on the very site of the museum.
Caboose 507 is the first piece of a larger Rail Heritage Exhibit that will explore life on the rails and the industries that grew alongside them.
Grand Opening: Caboose 507
10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, Sep 19
