Now is the perfect time to check out the Céilí of the Valley Society’s Second Friday Céilí. This family-friendly, no-experience, no-partner-needed dance features live music (by a rotation of different musicians each month) and called dances. Admission includes a free dance lesson at 7:15 followed by live music 8 to 11 p.m. It’s a fun form of exercise and great place to make new connections. Don’t like to dance? The music alone is worth every penny (and more!) PLUS, there will also be a raffle and silent auction to help support this local nonprofit cultural organization.

Celebrate an early St. Patrick’s Day on Friday, March 15 at B2 Taphouse & Brewery, 1170 Boone Rd SE, where they will have their famous Reuben sandwich, specialty Irish drinks, Guinness on draft and a whole lot of green.
Dress in green and join the Ceili of the Valley Society’s St. Patrick’s Walk-About in downtown Salem on March 16. Led by Willamette Valley Pipes and Drums, we gather in front of the Riverfront Carousel at 11:30 and begin walking around the park and into the downtown at noon. The walk lasts about an hour. The walk-about ends back at the Carousel for a photo. Everyone is welcome!
Head to West Salem for the St Patrick’s Day Pub Crawl on Edgewater on Saturday, March 16. Participating businesses include WestSide Taphouse, The Rabbit Cellar Lounge, Old Zen Wine Bar and The Vault. Each venue is hosting specials. Learn more here.
Half Penny is celebrating St. Patrick’s Day all weekend long (March 16 and 17) with an Irish menu featuring Guinness on tap, Irish stew, corned beef and more, beginning at 11 a.m. plus bagpipes by Willamette Valley Pipes & Drums at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 3 and 6 p.m. Sunday. (There will also be other live music) Green attire encouraged.
Celebrate St. Patrick’s Day with Potatoe Famine. The local Irish punk/folk band will play a 12 and older show with the Seditionists, 7 p.m. March 17 at The Dehn Bar in downtown Salem.
Make your reservations for a feast at Sisters Irish Bistro. Walk-in for lunch 12-3 p.m. but reservations are required for dinner March 17 which begins at 4 p.m. John Barrett will play acoustic tunes during dinner. Call 503-584-1099 to make arrangements.
Ongoing — The Céili of the Valley Society’s Celtic Dance Class happens every Tuesday at the VFW Hall, 630 Hood St NE. Taught by Elisa Chandler, all dances are walked, called and are for all ages and capabilities. Wear comfortable shoes and bring water. No experience or partner needed. It’s great exercise for your body and brain. Class takes place 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Cost is $5, but the first one is free for new dancers. Learn more at ceiliofthevalley.org.
