Tour the garden at Gaiety Hollow on April 19
The Lord & Schryver Conservancy invites the public to a Free Open Garden Event at Gaiety Hollow, the historic home, studio, and garden of pioneering landscape architects Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver, on Saturday, April 19 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Guests will enjoy one of the most spectacular times of year in the garden, with tulips, lilacs, Korean spice bush, tree peonies, rhododendrons, and more in full bloom. The event will also feature live music by Constant Billy from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. offering added fun for all ages. Visitors may also come into the home during the Open Garden to learn more about the legacy of Lord and Schryver.
Located at 545 Mission Street SE in Salem, Gaiety Hollow is on the National Register of Historic Places as it was the home, garden and design studio of Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver—the first women to own and operate a landscape architecture firm in the Pacific Northwest. Since its founding in 1929 and through the 40 years that followed, their firm designed over two hundred gardens and landscapes throughout the region, leaving a lasting legacy on public and private spaces alike.
"The garden is full of spring blooms that only appear for a short time each year," says Yvonne Putze, Executive Director of the Lord & Schryver Conservancy. "The colors and the scents are beautiful. People can wander the garden, sit and enjoy the music at their leisure. We look forward to welcoming familiar faces and those who've never experienced Gaiety Hollow before."
This event is free and open to the public. Rain or shine. No RSVP required.
