SUMMARY:An Evening with Fran Lebowitz
DESCRIPTION:In a cultural landscape filled with endless pundits and talking heads\, Fran Lebowitz stands out as one of our most insightful social commentators. \nHer essays and interviews offer her acerbic views on current events and the media – as well as pet peeves including tourists\, baggage-claim areas\, after-shave lotion\, adults who roller skate\, children who speak French\, or anyone who is unduly tan. The New York Times Book Review calls Lebowitz an “important humorist in the classic tradition.” Purveyor of urban cool\, Lebowitz is a cultural satirist whom many call the heir to Dorothy Parker. \nLebowitz worked odd jobs\, such as taxi driving\, belt peddling\, and apartment cleaning (“with a small specialty in Venetian blinds”)\, before being hired by Andy Warhol as a columnist for Interview. That was followed by a stint at Mademoiselle. Her first book\, a collection of essays titled Metropolitan Life\, was a bestseller\, as was a second collection\, Social Studies. By turns ironic\, facetious\, deadpan\, sarcastic\, wry\, wisecracking\, and waggish\, Lebowitz’s prose is wickedly entertaining. \nBetween 2001 to 2007\, Lebowitz had a recurring role as Judge Janice Goldberg on the television drama Law & Order. She also had a part in the Martin Scorsese-directed film\, The Wolf of Wall Street (2013). A raconteur if ever there was one\, Lebowitz has long been a regular on various talk shows including those hosted by Jimmy Fallon\, Conan O’Brien\, and Bill Maher. In an interview with the Paris Review\, Lebowitz said “I’m not a nervous person. I’m not afraid to be on TV. I’m only afraid when I write. When I’m at my desk I feel like most people would feel if they went on TV.” \nSaturday\, March 14\, 2026\n7:00pm\, Reserved Seating\n$31-$51

SUMMARY:Glitterfox
DESCRIPTION:Glitterfox doesn’t chase the algorithm – they follow instinct\, community\, and a kind of magia (Basque for magic). Formed by longtime creative partners Solange Igoa and Andrea Walker\, Portland’s Glitterfox has built their career the analog way: a van\, a map\, and unforgettable shows stitched across towns like constellations. Their rise has been defined by raw connection and fearless self-expression\, with music that fuses garage rock grit\, new wave shimmer\, southern Americana soul\, and a dancefloor pulse — all tangled with heart and heat until what emerges is unmistakably\, inimitably Glitterfox. \nTheir debut full-length “decoder” (out August 2024 via Jealous Butcher Records) is a supernova of sound and spirit — a soundtrack for becoming\, undoing\, and becoming again. The album traces deeply personal terrain: queer love\, personal transformation\, neurodivergence\, and the emotional aftershocks of a romantic split between Igoa and Walker\, who remain deeply connected musical collaborators. Tracks like “Passenger\,” “Change Me\,” “Polaroids\,” and the deceptively euphoric “Wildfires” showcase their ability to turn vulnerability into voltage. \nNow joined by Eric Stalker and Blaine Heinonen\, Glitterfox is more than a band — they’re chosen family\, held together by sound and the invisible threads that music always knows how to weave. Whether launching Portland’s annual Glitterfest as a wedding reception or channeling the messy middle of life into something unforgettable\, Glitterfox’s gift is their transparency\, their defiance\, and their freedom — sung loud. \nThursday\, March 19 \nDoors at 7 | Show at 8 \n$20 preshow + fees | $25 at doors

SUMMARY:Mendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Oregon Symphony in Salem presents \nMendelssohn’s Scottish Symphony\nThere’s nothing like hiking across moors and encountering castle ruins to ignite the creative process—as Mendelssohn experienced it on a tour of Scotland. Holyrood Castle (where Mary Queen of Scots was crowned) inspired the mysterious mood of the Third Symphony’s opening. But the mists ultimately lift in the sunny\, lively finale. Plus\, Portland favorite Conrad Tao dazzles in Mozart’s 21st Piano Concerto\, with its slow movement once described by biographer Maynard Solomon as “an entire movement of unrelieved\, time-stopping beauty…for something just short of eternity.”
