The recordings on this album document some of JJ’s most inspired performances and capture some of the beauty that Minto Island Growers brings to our community!

About the album — It’s raining. Fifteen people and a dog crowd into a food tent listening to amplified sitar. They’re totally silent for almost twenty minutes of sonic exploration and ambient interpolation. With a few barks and eager applause, the last tones of Raag Madhmadh Sarang hang in the moist fall air. ‘Minto & Elsewhere’ captures this and more, with eight improvisations inspired by the audience and the landscape. Thanks to the compact, multi-track recording setup designed by engineer Mark Yoshizumi, ‘Minto & Elsewhere’ illuminates the unique intensity and passion shared in each of these live improvisations. Inspired by Frank Zappa’s ‘Roxy & Elsewhere’, the sitar & tabla on this album deliver a tour de force of intricate beats and intriguing sounds.
