Oregon State Capitol\, State Capitol State Park\, Willamette Heritage Center\, Hallie Ford Museum of Art\, World Beat Gallery\, Salem Art Association at Bush Bart Art Center\, Salem Public Library\, and Deepwood Museum have teamed up to offer families a fun and free\, or discounted\, way to fill the week off school with activities. A passport for download will be available starting March 1\, 2026. \nYou can start and end your journey at any of the participating locations.

DESCRIPTION:Salem Police Chief Trevor Womack recently announced his retirement effective May 22\, 2026. As reported in the Salem Reporter\, Chief Womack said\, “There’s no career like this.  It’s an incredible career.  Thankful and grateful that I had the honor of serving this way\, especially these last five years.”  Being Salem’s Police Chief was\, he said\, “the highest honor” of his career in law enforcement.  Upon retirement\, he plans to return to Stockton\, CA\, his hometown. \nChief Womack assumed leadership of our police department on December 7\, 2020.  Speaking to the Salem City Club in early 2021\, Womack mentioned that community outreach\, transparency from data-driven policing\, and increasing staffing would guide his leadership. \nJoin us to hear our Chief of Police reflect on accomplishments and challenges\, report on the status of public safety initiatives\, and the Salem Police Department’s  path forward.

DESCRIPTION:The Lord & Schryver Conservancy invites the public to experience the beauty and history of Gaiety Hollow during the 2026 Open Gardens season at the historic home and garden of pioneering landscape architects Elizabeth Lord and Edith Schryver. \nOpen Gardens will take place Wednesdays from May through September from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.\, along with select Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Gaiety Hollow\, located at 545 Mission Street SE in Salem. \nSaturday Open Garden dates and entertainment include: \n\nMay 30 ~ Constant Billy\, a fun and energetic Americana music duo\nJune 13 ~ Explore an exhibit in the museum home about Lord and Schryver\nJune 27 ~ Finn Yang Quartet (instrumental live music)\nJuly 11 ~ Constant Billy returns to the Garden Terrace\nJuly 25 ~ Salem Madrigal Singers – Renaissance musical group\nAugust 8 ~ Explore an exhibit in the museum home about Lord and Schryver\nAugust 22 ~ Artists in Action! Paint/Write the town artists creating works in the garden\nSeptember 5 and 19 ~ Mid-Valley Poetry Society readings on the Garden Terrace for both September Open Garden dates\n\nStart times for music performances vary depending on the group’s preference\, but most often start during the 11 am hour. \nVisitors are encouraged to stroll through the nationally recognized garden\, learn about the legacy of Lord & Schryver\, and enjoy one of Salem’s most treasured historic landscapes. Gaiety Hollow is located across from the northeast corner of Bush’s Pasture Park. Parking is available on the east side of Church Street or at the base of the Soap Box Derby ramp in Bush’s Pasture Park parking lot. Admission is free\, but donations toward the care and preservation of Gaiety Hollow are greatly appreciated.
